Best of the Week: 03/03/2010
This week our selection includes an assortment of bass driven treats. Starting with another Los Angeles based glitch technician, before moving to the East Coast for some monolithic New York modernism, then on to the dark underworld of the Bristol bass scene, a quick trip to Paris for some new school electro, all topped off with a crack house stomper complete with bells and whistles.
Shlomo is a talented young producer from Los Angeles who makes music in much the same vein as compatriots Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing/Shlomo-For You Pt.2
Signed to uber-cool label This Is Not An Exit, this fantastic indie piece of disco manages to incorporate a great vocal and even brass, and breathes some new life into the genre/Pink Stallone-The Six
Passions bring to mind My Bloody Valentine and Joy Division, and have a self released and self-titled new LP you should check/Passions-Endless
Another awesome band from Brooklyn, These Are Powers are a trio who make freaky funk-punk full of great rhythms and weird sounds, this is taken from their new Candyman EP/These Are Powers-World Class Peoples
Bristol really is the home of great innovative dubstep currently, in much the same way that Roni Size and company were in the Drum & Bass realm in the late nineties, and this cut released on Planet Mu proves why/Gemmy-Johnny 5
The incredible talent that is Joker no longer needs any introduction on this blog, being a firm favorite. Yet this remix by All City signings Om Unit deserves your absolute attention/Joker-Digidesign (Om Unit’s Poplock Remix)
Fresh from the Ed Banger stable, the original of this cut does have a great vocal, but this instrumental from French legends La Funk Mob is full of great beats, subtle acid lines, and is truly in touch with the funk/Breakbot-Baby I’m Yours (La Funk Mob Instrumental mix)
German producer Lorenz Rhode is making some truly stomping tech-house right at the moment, and has a new EP out called Something Hot, but we still love this zany blender of track and think you probably will too/Lorenz Rhode-Telephone Helicopter, Applause, Gunshot
Support the artists. Get their music here-Picadilly, Bleep, Rush Hour, Conch and Samurai.
